Dir Kumrat Tours

Upper Dir is defined by two equally powerful traits:its breathtakingly raw, fairy- tale alpine wilderness and the unmatched, legendary hospitality of its people.  UpperDir stands apart for its untouched, rugged nature and a deeply rooted Pakhtun tribal culture that treats every traveller like an honoured guest. The local population consists predominantly of Pashtun tribes (mainly the Yusufzai) alongside the indigenous Kohistani communities in the upper valleys.

The Crown Jewels of Dir Tourism

  • Kumrat Valley (Upper Dir): The most famous valley in the region, known for its dense deodar forests, wooden log cabins, and the gushing Panjkora River. It is highly popular for riverside camping under starlit skies.
  • Jahaz Banda Meadows: A high-altitude, picture-perfect alpine plateau at 3,100 meters. Dotted with vibrant wildflowers in summer, it offers an incredible camping base surrounded by snow-capped peaks. [
  • Katora Lake: Named after its bowl-like shape (“katora” means bowl), this striking alpine glacial lake sits in the upper reaches of Jahaz Banda. Reaching its turquoise waters requires a memorable trek over glaciers and rocky terrains.
  • Laram Top & Shahi (Lower Dir): Exceptional hill stations that offer panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges. Laram Top transforms into a winter wonderland when it receives heavy snowfall.

  Culture, Crafts, and Local Flavors

A journey to Dir is incomplete without immersing yourself in the local hospitality and heritage.
  • Diroji Knives: Dir is nationally renowned for its master blacksmiths who forge traditional, highly durable handmade knives and daggers.
  • Ancient Heritage: History buffs can visit the Chakdara Museum and the historic Churchill Picket to view preserved Gandharan artifacts and relics spanning thousands of years.
  • The Food: Local bazaars serve up authentic, rugged Pakhtun cuisine. Make sure to try the sizzling Chapli Kababs, freshly grilled mutton Tikka, and traditional tandoori bread.
